In the interior of a monument, the Monuments Policy Framework 2026 requires old colour finishes to be preserved; they may not be removed. If remnants of historic wallpaper or wall decoration come to light during work in a monument, or their value is in doubt, further consultation with the municipality's heritage department (Monumenten en Archeologie) is required.
