Laminate fitting: decide the scope first
State which rooms need flooring, which laminate you have chosen and whether you already own the material. A straight layout, a pattern and several small rooms involve different detail work. The fitter assesses the base and discusses the finish. The quote should identify who supplies boards, underlay, skirting and profiles.
A professional can help with measuring and fitting, but product, underlay and base compatibility need checking first. Say whether you will remain in the home during the work.
Check the substrate and underlay
The base must meet the chosen flooring system’s requirements. Have moisture, flatness, stability and any old adhesive assessed. Underlay cannot compensate for every defect. Levelling or repairs belong in the job only when needed and agreed in writing.
An apartment may have acoustic requirements set by the owners’ association or landlord. Ask for a suitable floor and underlay combination and its product information.
Prepare the rooms and agree the schedule
Agree who moves furniture and removes the old covering. Acclimatise the laminate as specified for the actual product; one fixed waiting period does not apply to every system. The fitter should plan assessment, any preparation and fitting in the right order.
Ask how adequate movement space will be maintained at doors, fixed kitchen units and transitions. A floating floor must not be unintentionally pinned down.
Compare laminate fitting quotes
Compare boards, underlay, fitting, skirting, profiles, preparation and disposal as separate items. Check VAT, minimum charges and whether fitting is measured on covered area or ordered material. Agree that unexpected repairs must be explained and approved first.
