How much does flooring installation cost in the Netherlands?

A fitting tariff buys a defined installation task. It may exclude the floorboards, delivery and preparation. One published 2026 tariff lists €13.50 per m² for click laminate fitting and €12.50 per m² for rigid click PVC fitting. These numbers belong to a particular provider and scope. They are useful as starting points for questions, not a prediction of your contractor's offer.

An old or uneven subfloor, small rooms, many corners, pipes, doorways or a herringbone pattern can all change the quote. Glue-down PVC needs a different process from click products. Ask for the exact floor type and all work items rather than comparing a single headline rate.

Start with measured floor area and the product-specific allowance for cuts. Check the cost of the boards or tiles and their delivery. Next, find out whether the existing floor can be reused as a base, whether it needs removing, and which underlay, vapour barrier, adhesive or primer the new system requires.

Finishing can involve skirting, thresholds and trimming doors. Moving furniture, removing old coverings, disposing of waste and access or travel charges may also sit outside the fitting price. The quote should say who supplies the product and what happens if damage appears under the old floor.

Laminate and click PVC use locking joints, yet their requirements for underlay and flatness are not identical. Glue-down PVC is bonded to the surface, so the preparation and adhesive specification matter even more. Comparing click laminate labour with a fully installed glue-down PVC package will obscure the real difference.

Request the same breakdown for each option: product per m², waste allowance, subfloor inspection, levelling where needed, underlay or glue, installation, skirting and VAT. Some suppliers set a minimum call-out charge for a small room. Ask for the total payable amount as well as the price per m².

Levelling prepares the surface; it is not included in every flooring installation. An installer needs to inspect flatness, moisture, adhesion and the new product's requirements. A primer, levelling compound or a different repair method may be needed after the old covering comes up.

A public guide indicates €15–€25/m² for levelling as preparation for PVC; a floor specialist advertises from €16.34/m² including compound and VAT. A wooden floor, severe defects or a thicker layer may call for a different method and price. Get the preparation scope in writing instead of assuming every home fits that range.

Measure each room separately. One open 30 m² living room and three rooms totalling 30 m² can involve different amounts of cutting and finishing. Include alcoves and doorways. Ask the product supplier how many full packs are needed for the selected pattern rather than purchasing exactly the measured area.

Have the quote state both the area being covered and the quantity of material being ordered. Clarify who keeps unused packs and who pays if the first order falls short. This also helps explain why two 'per m²' figures may be calculated on different bases.

A floating covering may be easier to remove than an old bonded one, but adhesive residue and damage can only become visible afterwards. Ask which preparation work is certain and which potential extra work requires a separate inspection. If an old material looks unusual or may be hazardous, pause ordinary removal and have it assessed properly.

Check finished floor height too. New underlay and skirting can affect doors and transitions to other rooms. Photograph those details before requesting quotes, particularly if the home will remain occupied during installation.

Is the flooring product priced separately from fitting? Who assesses the subfloor and how is repair charged? What underlay, adhesive or primer is specified? Do skirting, thresholds and disposal form part of the job? What is the full amount including VAT, delivery and any minimum fee?

Written answers are more useful than a low headline rate. Compare the missing items as well as the total. If two offers describe different scopes, ask each professional to revise them on the same basis.

At a published fitting tariff of €13.50/m², 30 m² of click laminate installation works out to €405 for the specified fitting task. At €12.50/m², a 30 m² click PVC fitting example is €375. Neither calculation includes the flooring product, its delivery, preparation or trim, and the tariffs have provider-specific terms.

If standard levelling is genuinely needed and quoted at €15–€25/m² for PVC preparation, the separate 30 m² arithmetic example is €450–€750. Do not treat the sum of these figures as a quote. Confirm product, VAT, minimum charges, subfloor condition and finishing with the contractor.

Share measurements by room, pictures of the current floor and edges, the intended material and pattern, a preferred date and whether the rooms are empty. Mention old flooring removal, thresholds, skirting and any known moisture or damage. Ask each professional to identify assumptions and separate preparation from installation.
