Want a team to move your goods from your old home to your new one? Describe one full home move, with a list of goods, both homes and the help you need. Agree loading, transport and unloading. Add packing, furniture work or a moving lift if you need them. A full service means the agreed scope, not every possible extra.

You can describe a full moving job through SkilledContractors. The platform does not carry out the move. You assess any replies and agree the work with the mover. A request is not a booking. Availability is not guaranteed.

What should the mover do?

Part of the jobTell the mover
Load and unloadWhich goods and which floors?
TransportStart, end and any stop on the way
PackAll goods, fragile goods only or none?
Take furniture apartWhich pieces, and must they be put back together?
Lift or other toolsWhere is access tight or difficult?
Boxes and wrapWho supplies them and returns hired boxes?

Have each task listed in the quote. Storage, house clearance, waste removal and cleaning are not part of transport by default. A piano, safe or other special load needs a separate check. Tell the mover about it before you agree the job.

For a few items or help to lift goods only, first see the types of moving help. That helps you avoid describing a small transport job as a whole household move.

Make a clear list of your goods

List the large pieces and appliances in each room. Count the boxes. Include a loft, shed or storage room too. Add loose items such as beds, mirrors and plants. State what will move and what will stay.

Give the size of bulky goods and their weight if you know it. Say whether a wardrobe can come apart and who will do that work. Photos can show the goods and tight doors. Where space is close, photos do not replace measurements.

You do not need to guess an exact volume in cubic metres. A clear list helps a mover choose the van and crew. Ask for a closer check if the load or route is not yet clear.

Explain access at both homes

Stairs, indoor lifts and the walk to the van

Give the floor and state whether the building has a lift. Share the size of the lift, doors and stairs if needed. Note tight turns, low doors and the walk from the van to the home. Check the building's rules for use of the lift.

Do this for the old home and the new one. Easy loading does not mean easy unloading. Note any roadworks or building work that could block the route.

A furniture lift and space outside

If goods will not fit safely through the home, ask the mover to check whether a lift is suitable. The opening, height, ground and space outside all matter. Agree who arranges the operator and permission to place the lift. Keep the work area clear. A furniture lift must not carry people.

Ask the local council about parking, a reserved space and placing a lift. These are separate issues. Do not assume that one rule applies across the country or that a space will be free on the day.

Agree the date and price

Give your preferred date, key handover times and any access limits. Say whether the date is flexible. Ask the mover to confirm the crew, van and lift, if needed, for the agreed time.

Compare quotes for the same scope. Check the crew, hours or fixed price, van, travel, distance, supplies and extra work. Ask for VAT and required costs to be clear. Use our moving costs guide for guide rates and price items. This service page does not sell a fixed moving package.

Agree what happens if there are more goods, delays or a wait for keys. Who must approve extra work and at which rate? Check the terms for a date change or cancellation too. Have the terms confirmed before you book the work.

Damage, cover and safe work

Ask who your contract is with and how to report damage. Read the cover, limits and any excess. Check the rules for goods you pack or move yourself. The word ‘insured’ does not mean that all goods and risks are covered.

Keep your list and written terms. Photos of fragile goods before the move can help record their state. Report any damage to the mover promptly and follow the agreed process.

Let the crew assess safe ways to lift heavy items. Point out loose parts and weak joints. Gas work and changes to fixed wiring need a suitable specialist. A move is not a request to change those systems.

Moving day checklist

  1. Check that the list, homes and tasks are still correct.
  2. Finish the packing you agreed to do. Do not make boxes too heavy to handle.
  3. Keep keys, medicine, documents and small valuables with you.
  4. Check that access and any permission are in place.
  5. Keep children and pets away from the work route.
  6. After unloading, check the goods and agreed work with the mover.

For a move within the Netherlands, report your new address to the council where you will live. You can do this from four weeks before the move until five days after it. See the Dutch government's address change guidance. The linked page is in Dutch.

Frequently asked questions

Does a full move include packing?

Only if you agree it. State who packs, which goods they pack and who supplies boxes and wrap. Ask for that part of the quote to be clear.

Can I move from a home without a lift?

It may be possible. The mover needs to check the stairs, furniture and route. A different method or a furniture lift may be needed. Do not assume a method or time before that check.

How long will my move take?

It depends on the load, route and crew. Ask for an estimate for your job and the factors that may change it. A set time for every home would not be reliable.

Can I change my moving date?

That depends on the terms and the mover's schedule. Before you confirm, check the fees and deadlines for a change or cancellation. Tell the mover of a change at once. A new date needs confirmation.

Describe your full moving job

List the goods, both homes, access, preferred date and extra tasks. Keep sensitive details such as entry codes out of the public description. A clear brief helps the mover assess the job.

Describe your full home move. You choose whether a reply fits your needs and agree the price and work with the mover.
